Mounting the Dragonfly:

  1. Apply the Dragonfly handbrake.

  2. Fit the socket of the lower wings to the lower clamp balls, and secure the ball-joint with the bolt. Push the crank slightly forward, thereby raising the front coaster wheels from the ground.

  3. Fit the socket of the upper wings to the top clamp balls, and secure the ball-joint with the bolt.

  4. Release the handbrake.

Removing the Dragonfly:

  1. Apply the Dragonfly handbrake.

  2. While pushing the handlebar column forward, release each of the upper two ball-joints by pushing the bolt and removing the socket from the balls.

  3. Ease the crank backward, so that the front coaster wheels of the chair rest on the ground.

  4. Release the two bottom ball-joints by pushing the bolt and removing the socket from the balls.

Dragonfly Specifications:

Weight: 11 kg. The maximum allowed user weight is 115 kg.

Length: 115 cm (45 ¼ inches).

Colour: Silver metallic.

Installing the Dragonfly:

Wheelchair Requirements: We offer attachment clamps fitting tubes with the following diameters:

25.4 mm (1 inch)

28.8 mm (1.125 inch)

30.5 mm (1.2 inch)

31.8 mm (1.25 inch)

Guidelines and Recommendations: There must be enough space to install two attachment clamps on each side of the two front wheelchair tubes. The miminum required tube length is: 2 x 30 mm for each of the two clamps, plus a vertical distance of at least 80 mm between the two clamps. The clamps can be mounted with the balls on the inside or the outside of the frame. See table *** to determine which wheelchairs are compatible with the Dragonfly.

On some wheelchairs, the castor barrels form an obstacle to installing the clamps with the balls on the outside of the frame.

Installation instructions:

  1. Apply the Dragonfly handbrake.

  2. Mount the four attachment clamps; two on each of the front tubes of the wheelchair. Each clamp has an extension with ball.

  3. Adjust the length of the rods on the two bottom connection wings by either screwing the extension bolts in or out. Each of the four connection wings of the Dragonfly has a ball socket. The ball on the clamp fits in the socket and the bolt keeps the ball-joint secured.

  4. Fit the socket of the lower wings to the lower clamp balls, and secure the ball-joint with the bolt.

  5. Adjust the length of the rods on the two upper connection wings.

  6. Fit the socket of these wings to the upper clamp balls, and secure the ball-joint with the bolt.

  7. In order to ensure that the crank of the Dragonfly is in the optimal position for the user, fine-tune the angle of the handlebar column by changing the attachment angle of the wings.

  8. By changing the length of handlebar column, the height of the hand crank can be configured for each user. The length of the handlebar column can be adjusted by sliding it up to 10 cm in or out.

To facilitate the installation on the widest possible range of wheerchairs, each attachment clamp is provided with an extension with ball. In addition, the length of the rods on the connection wings can be adjusted.

Configuring the Dragonfly for the User: The Dragonfly can be adapted according to the height of the user and his/her arm length. This involves adjusting the length and angle of the handlebar column. For a detailed description of how to carry out these adjustments, see the installation instructions.

To ensure that the Dragonfly is correctly configured for the user, verify that:

  1. There is approximately a 90 degree angle between the user’s upper and lower arms when the user rotates the crank handles to the position closest to his/her chest

  2. The users’s arms are nearly fully extended when the crank handles are rotated to the position furthest from the user’s chest.

  3. There is at least 1.5 inch (4 cm) between the users legs and the crank handle when crank handle is at its lowest position.

  4. The castors should between 1 inch (2,5 cm) ~ 2.5 inch (6,5 cm) off the ground.

  5. The front wheel should be approximately 2 inch (5 cm) in front of your feet or 6 inch (15 cm) in front of your foot rest.

Dragonfly Options:

  • Blue finish.

  • Single-arm crank.

  • V-crank

Dragonfly Maintenance:

The Dragonfly requires periodic maintenance that is similar to ordinary bicycle maintenance:

  • Inspection and replacement, if necessary, of brake and gear cables.

  • Lubrication and tensioning of the chair.

  • Check the tire pressure.
