Mounting the Pivot:

Wheelchair Requirements: 12mm or 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) quick release rear wheel axles.

We offer attachment clamps fitting wheelchair tubes with the following diameters:

22.2 mm (0.875 inch)

25 or 25.4 mm (1 inch)

28.8 mm (1.125 inch)

30.5 mm (1.2 inch)

31.8 mm (1.25 inch)

Installation instructions:

  1. First take the parking brakes and the wheels off of the wheelchair.

  2. Mount the two attachment clamps on the seat tubes of the wheelchair at least 150 mm in front of the rear axle. The subframe angle should be just below horizontal.

  3. Fit the wheel and internal gear hub on the wheelchair.

  4. Connect the levers to the attachment clamps using the ‘quick release’ coupling mechanism.

  5. Adjust the length of the levers (HOW?) so that the users forearms are at an approximately * degree angle with the horizon when gripping the lever handle.

If the user wishes to reinstall the original wheels, the Pivot can be easily removed by simply releasing the attachment clamps and removing the wheel and hub units.

Guidelines and Recommendations: Although the Pivot has a built-in breaking system, the user may consider replacing the parking brakes with scissor brakes. The side clothing guards on some chairs may obstruct the lever. If this occurs, they have to be either removed or replaced by smaller ones.

Pivot Maintenance:

The brake pads as well as the gear and brake cables must be periodically inspected and, if required, replaced. The gears are enclosed in the hub and are maintenance free.
